Author

Tara Pyfrom (she/her) is a Bahamian-born Canadian author and freelance writer whose life changed forever when Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 storm, devastated her home in the Bahamas in 2019.

An island girl at heart, Tara grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of the ocean, which has always been a source of inspiration for her writing and a defining part of who she is. A lifelong lover of words, she began writing poetry and short stories as a child and has always been drawn to vivid descriptions and powerful storytelling.

After surviving the hurricane with her family, Tara spent years working through the trauma of the experience in therapy. That journey eventually led her to turn her story into her first book, The Ocean in Our Blood. Blending lyrical writing with intense, edge-of-your-seat storytelling, the memoir recounts her family's harrowing physical survival and the two-year recovery that followed, exploring what happens long after the storm passes and the cameras leave.

Tara now lives in New Brunswick, Canada, with her wife and daughter. Though she has traded tropical island life for Canada's colder shores, the ocean remains central to her understanding of beauty, power, and resilience. When she isn't writing, she's usually planning the family's next far-off travel adventure.
